Recommendations for NCOs
Training NCOs
The training fur future sergeants, quartermaster sergeants or chief sergeant majors takes a little longer than one term. If you have not completed it before beginning your studies, we recommend starting in spring for whole a year (two holiday terms) packing free periods with an internship or language stay.
If you entered the sommer basic training just before your planned begin of study, we recommend urgently to shift your studies for a year. An informal notice to the university secretariat is sufficient.
Splitting training is possible with the spring start, completing the "VBA1" in summer of the following year and deferring conflicting exams. Thus it is possible – with due regard to necessary provisions – to complete your bachelor with just one holiday term.
Recommendation for Officers
Training Officers
Training for commissioned officers lasts more than a full year and therefore causes notably difficult coordination problems. A start in spring or summer before beginning one's studies, therefore deferring them a year seems particularly favorable.
During studies, splitting training offers an optimal solution: The "VBA1" in spring (if you started in spring) or in autumn respectively can be deferred to the following summer or even till after graduation. This way, your studies can be completed with only two holiday terms. Check if you won't append an additional term for an internship or for your bachelor thesis (many do), as training in one period might be favorable in those cases.
Some officers at the university have decided finish the "VBA1" whilst enrolling for the truncated term and autonomously studying a reduced exam load. Members of the Officers' Association at the University of St.Gallen are glad to help with their experience.
